Solita Defence & Security team has been chosen to join the European Defence Fund´s project BadB, which focuses on enhancing navigation solutions for land and aerial vehicles without depending on global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). The project has been given a €6 million investment grant by the Estonian and Finnish Ministries of Defence and the European Defence Fund, EDF.
“The nature of warfare is currently changing radically and rapidly because of technological developments. We are proud to see Solita’s expertise can help develop our common defence and navigation systems”, said Solita Head of Defence and Security Eva Sula.
Project BadB will focus on enhancing navigation solutions for land and aerial vehicles without depending on global navigation satellite systems. This will be accomplished by using satellite map data and machine vision algorithms to determine the vehicle’s position. The project duration will be 24 months.
“The specific objectives of the project involve creating weather-independent, up-to-date satellite imagery maps for unmanned aerial and ground vehicles, developing a machine vision module and an image recognition system, and designing a path planning system based on sensor data, cross-platform data sharing, and swarming”, Eva Sula continues.
Project BadB is carried out by a consortium of four companies from three European countries: Estonia, Finland, and Ireland. In close cooperation with the consortium companies Krattworks, GIM Robotics, KappaZeta and Rigr AI, Solita will provide strong support to the consortium throughout the project.
