My learning curve has been steep
I joined Solita last September, and it’s been a great learning experience so far. During my first projects at Solita, I’ve got a deep dive into the healthcare industry. I’ve done maintenance and development in the Oravizio project. It’s a project where Solita has developed a risk tool that utilises artificial intelligence and machine learning for Coxa Hospital for Joint Replacement. The Oravizio tool supports doctors in making decisions and helps them evaluate treatment methods and risks related to patients’ surgeries.
It’s been meaningful to work with projects related to healthcare. I feel like I’m contributing to people’s health and wellbeing, although I’m just a small piece in the puzzle. I’ve also learned new technologies and coding languages. I wasn’t familiar with AWS before starting my job at Solita, but the Oravizio project has allowed me to start learning it. I’ve also had a chance to study Clojure and Python.
In this industry, we need to learn constantly to stay up to date with the newest technologies. It’s refreshing: work never gets boring as there is something new coming up all the time.
Problem-solving makes me tick
If I think about my daily job, problem-solving is what makes me tick. We encounter smaller and bigger problems all the time, and it’s nice to investigate and explore the best solutions to tackle them. Automation is also close to my heart. I like building solutions where we can diminish manual work. With automation, we can also reduce the risk of human errors.
I’ve had quite a lot of autonomy and freedom in my role. I’ve been able to decide what is relevant for me to learn, and nobody has questioned that. There is an atmosphere of trust: I’m the best person to decide how to deliver the best results and estimate what I should learn next.
I’ve also had flexibility in deciding my own working hours. I mostly work between 8 am to 4 pm, and I’ve never had a problem with that. My workload has been manageable since the start, and I’ve been able to plan my days and schedules based on my needs. As long as things get done, and the customer is happy, there is space for flexibility and autonomy.
Delivering real value in the long-term
My experience from Solita is that people really want the best for the customers. We go above and beyond to make sure that we deliver real value in the long term, and sometimes it means that we might challenge the original request. What I’ve also noticed is that Solitans are extremely quality driven. I was impressed by the level of teamwork and emphasis on quality when I had a chance to participate in some public tenders.
It’s been nice to notice that the culture here is very helpful. It matches well with my motto: colleagues are your most important clients. I like to help people, and I think we should always maintain good relationships with our colleagues. I think I can apply this motto to everyone I work with: other Solitans, customers and team members from other companies. When we do things together and help each other, work is more fun, and the results are better.
