I work as a Senior Integration Specialist in the Connectivity unit, which is part of Connected Data. I work with the Mulesoft integration platform. I didn’t actually consider myself working in Lifecycle Services, but now that I think about it, I do have that element in my role. It basically means we don’t run off when the service is in production.
What I do as an Integration Specialist
The best thing about my work is the variety of customers and industries I get to work with. I used to work at the University of Applied Sciences and there the work was very different. We focused on one thing, and here you get to peek behind the curtain of how things work with different companies. For example, I’m now working with a bank customer and it’s very interesting to see how everything works. Working with different customers and with different teams broadens the perspective and ways of working.
What is meaningful for me, is to help more junior team members to get started. I enjoy working on projects like that. I’m happy to support the success of people who are at the beginning of their careers. It makes me very proud to see the evolution and growth of a new person starting out in their role and eventually being the one helping and guiding others.
My typical workweek starts with reading the errors from the weekend and deciding which ones to react to. The majority of my time goes to development and the rest in support. In integration the errors are usually not in the service itself but in the data which has been used. We can provide the big picture for the customer and an understanding of where the data comes from and where it goes. We also spot the errors ourselves and offer solutions to the customer.
What I’ve learned in this role is working with a wide variety of people both on our side and the customer side. The social aspect is different compared to my previous work. The environments are so different. We consultants learn in months what people in the private sector might take a few years to learn. It’s good to have that kind of challenge.
