Meet our People of Solita. We have over 2200 employees in various locations with different skills and backgrounds – each with a story to share about what they do and what inspires them. Here is Nils’ story.

When Nils joined Solita, he quickly realised he had stepped into a workplace that perfectly balanced technical excellence with a warm, people-focused culture. With a dual role as both a Developer and Business Lead, he enjoys the best of both worlds – working hands-on with clients while also shaping the growth of his unit through sales, recruitment and business development.

“The variety is what makes my job so exciting, I get to do so many different things in one week,” Nils says. “One day, I’m involved in high-level discussions about recruitment strategies, and the next, I’m knee-deep in code and technical problem-solving. It keeps me on my toes and ensures that I stay relevant and constantly learning.”

Culture as a vibe

Solita’s culture is a major reason why Nils thrives here. It’s warm, caring and driven by curiosity.

“There’s this ‘warm, edgy, nice vibe’ that makes working here feel inspiring. We are highly technical and driven by a passion for exploring the unknown and that’s something I really appreciate.”

Beyond its technical know-how, Solita is a company that values people with a strong emphasis on well-being and work-life balance. “We’re encouraged to take care of ourselves, and that mindset makes a huge difference in your long-term job satisfaction”.

Growth of AI

Recently, Nils worked on an AI-powered Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) project to help analyse surveys for a client. “It’s amazing what AI can achieve. This project is part of our broader goal to deepen our expertise in AI, and I’m excited to be part of it.”

Working in a small, agile team that handled everything from data engineering to DevOps, Nils enjoys the opportunity to work across the full stack. “That’s where we want to be as developers. Able to move fluidly across different areas and ensure that every part of the project runs smoothly”.

The project also reinforced his belief in the future of AI within Solita. “We’re just scratching the surface of what AI can do. Going forward, we can build context-aware agent-driven solutions that tackle complex challenges in real time and I see good potential for that kind of projects in the future, as these autonomous agents continue to reshape our approach to problem solving”.

Work-life balance with a runner’s high

Outside of work and family life, Nils is an enthusiastic runner, clocking many miles each week as a way to unwind. “My goal is to get faster. It’s fun to notice the progress when running my 5k and 10k loops regularly”.

At Solita, balancing work and personal life isn’t just a slogan, it’s a fundamental part of the company’s DNA. “There’s no expectation to take on more than you can deliver. We make sure our employees don’t burn out from excessive demands. Also, we trust each other to get the work done regardless of whether we prefer to work from 8 am to 5 pm or at other hours. That freedom and autonomy is not to be taken for granted and makes a huge difference.”

Collaboration made easy

Collaboration at Solita is effortless, thanks to a strong, generous community. Whether through Slack discussions, mob programming, or cross-unit projects, teamwork is seamless.

“Since I joined here, I’ve seen how collaboration between different units has evolved. AI now cuts across all our business areas, allowing us to work together in new ways.”

With Slack as a primary communication tool, help is never far away. “If you have a question, there’s always someone ready to assist. It’s a generous and open culture where knowledge-sharing is encouraged”.

When asked about his favorite Slack channels, Nils laughs. “There are almost too many! But I’d say I enjoy following the Generative AI channel and our Cloud Development channel, it’s always fun.”

A memorable beginning

One of Nils’ most memorable moments at Solita happened even before he officially started. “The weekend before my first day, I got to attend our annual Solita Sweden conference in Gotland. I only knew one person at the time, so it was a bit overwhelming but also an amazing experience”.

The event was packed with introductions, activities, and a particularly unforgettable dinner and party on Saturday evening. “It was a fantastic way to get to know people in a relaxed setting before stepping into the office. That experience made my actual first day so much smoother.”

Thoughts on ‘self-leadership’

For Nils, self-leadership is essential. “At a consultancy, you need to take initiative, not just in your work but in your own growth. The more ownership you take, the stronger you become as a consultant, developer and professional.”

This mindset has shaped his approach. “I’m trying to think about how my work aligns with the company’s goals. That helps me position myself proactively, ensuring I develop in the direction I want while also contributing to the bigger picture.”

What sets Solita apart from the crowd?

When asked what makes Solita different from other consultancies, Nils doesn’t hesitate. “Our technical expertise is incredibly high, and we have outstanding people. We work very closely with our clients, always questioning, improving, and ensuring long-term value.”

Beyond technical excellence, the emphasis on knowledge transfer and strong relationships defines our way of working. “We don’t just deliver a project and leave. We ensure that our customers have the tools, knowledge, and confidence to continue long after we’re gone.”

He also highlights the employee-first approach. “The way we take care of our people is remarkable. It’s not just about benefits; it’s about a genuine focus on well-being and professional growth. There is a calmness when I step into the office. We are in constant movement, but it’s a controlled, conscious and strategic movement. There’s no need to rush.”

What the future holds

Looking ahead, Nils is excited about the direction Solita is taking, especially in AI.

“We’re going to see more projects that push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI and I’m eager to be part of that journey.”

Nils will be stepping into a Lead Developer role in his next assignment for a housing organisation, with a focus on ensuring the efficiency and productivity of the customer’s development teams.

As he reflects on his time at Solita, one thing is clear: he’s exactly where he wants to be. With an exciting future ahead and a strong foundation of support, Nils is ready to continue his journey here, one step, one project and one perfectly balanced stride at a time.
